It is with great joy and excitement that I  write this blog.

Today the American Nurses Credentialing Center again named Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin a member of the prestigious Magnet  Recognition Program. This was a unanimous decision by the Commission on  Magnet.

This morning  a large group of direct-care nurses, multidisciplinary  staff,  and leaders huddled in a crowded conference room  anxiously awaiting a call from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. There  was so much excitement in the room when the phone rang. Once we were told that  we retained our Magnet status, the crowd just erupted into applause and cheer  as the conversation was played out on a speaker phone.

We knew we were  part of an elite group, but we were informed by  Gail  Wolf, DSN, RN, FAAN, the Chair of the Commission for Magnet  Recognition, that we truly are part of an elite group. Only 2 percent of our nation’s hospitals have been redesignated Magnet Hospitals. No, that’s not a typo. Two percent.  Ms. Wolf said they were extremely impressed with our application, evidence and the site  visit.

The center awards Magnet  Recognition in honor of excellent nursing care and professionalism in nursing management. They also recognize the interdisciplinary work required to give excellent care.  We first earned Magnet Recognition in  2004. To retain Magnet status for another four years really underscores the  commitment of our entire staff to strive harder each day to meet the  health care needs of the patients and families we serve.

I am so  honored and proud of everyone in this hospital. The exceptional level of care  and professionalism I see every day is cause for celebration.
